December 27th was the day that Mike Huckabee supporters, aka "Huck Army" as they like to call themselves, were supposed to startle the establishment, sending a shock wave throughout likely republican candidates seeking the party's nomination. The intent of the fundraiser was to raise $2 million in an attempt to end recent criticisms to the campaign. With a recent jolt in polling over the last few weeks, many have been left stupified over how this sudden gain in polling popularity was able to occur despite current poll standings, as well as the campaign's relatively insignificant fundraising efforts. In turn, the campaign has been labeled as a puppet of main stream media outlets. However, in order to shun bias from this analycist, it is my oppinion that this rise, though largely impart due to the burst in media attention, also is linked to his likeableness among evangelical Christians. However, in no way do I personally endorse the candiate, as he has reportedly to flip flop on numerous occasions. But this is all beside the point. Time to get back to December 27th.
The date was organized and put together by grassroots supporters stationed at www.hucksarmy.com. The hope of Huckabee's supporter's was to immitate rival candidate Ron Paul's moneybomb succesess on Nov. 5 ($4.2 mil.) and Dec. 16($6+ million). However, despite the little media attention that the day recieved from major media outlets, as well as the push for cash from the official campaign, the money bomb seems to have failed miserably. Garnering less that 5% of its intended target, the date raised less than $100,000 of its $2 million target.
What this means is unclear. Many will likly use this as "proof" that the Huckabee campaign is nothing more than a sham. Personally, I believe that although the campaign has some very faithful supporters, this day does prove to some degree that the campaign isn't all it was hyped up to be. Yeah, Huckabee is surging in the polls. But still, the polls are nothing more than statistics that can be altered at the whim of its user. By rephrasing even a single word, you can alter the results of the entire poll. In short, money and where it comes from seems to act as a much clearer indicator of a candidates standings and unfortunately for Huckabee, when it comes fown to fundraising, his campaign just doesn't cut it.

Huckabee's rise is an enigma and his fall should be expected given his lackluster grassroots actions and anemic fundraising efforts.
